While serving in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm in the early 90’s, I realized a career in pro auto racing was where I wanted to be. While I was still in the Navy, I volunteered for several local track teams to hone my skills as a self-taught racing mechanic. Hard work and determination landed me an opportunity to work at the top level of NASCAR racing.
In my ten-year career in NASCAR I worked with many drivers, including Ward Burton, Ken Schrader, Robby Gordon, Brett Bodine and Dick Trickle. I was Chief Mechanic for the Lowe’s Racing Team and served on the pit crew as jackman for several other top NASCAR teams including MBNA, Hooters and ACDelco.
I partially attribute my success in business to my experience in NASCAR. As part of a top pit crew, I learned to work with a team that is operating at a very fast pace and in a precision manner. The ambitious nature of pro racing and the time management skills I learned helped me to become more successful as an entrepreneur.
Pro racing is about competition and it’s about winning—much like the world of business. And that’s what I thrive on, hence the natural transition from NASCAR to entrepreneurship.
